Thank All That is Holy!

For the thousands of frustrated fans this past season who had to deal with half game, half static on the radio broadcasts, the A’s have reached an agreement with an actual radio station, 106.9 FM, that apparently reaches the entire east bay area.  Hallelujah!  There were literally times I would inch my car forward at the stoplights trying to find a spot that would erase the static.  It was unacceptable.  Even Billy Beane himself had compalined that he couldn’t hear the games in San Ramon where he makes his not-so-humble abode.  Now that the important stuff is done, hire Ron Washington please!!

NOT AGAIN!!!

Susan Slusser Article

This article is incredible for the fact that a number of players commented on the record on their feelings about Macha, usually all you hear is the normal rhetoric, but this explains a lot.

Macha’s Out

There have been several reasons listed for Macha’s departure from his poor communication with players to his callous treatment of injured players. Personally, I think we all know the truth. It was the phone call by yours truly to the aftershow with Robert Buan, which was taken first by the way, an indicator of the power and prestige that comes with being the Mayor of Curveballcity. Normally I would reserve my judgement until I reached my computer at home to share it with the rabid Curveballites, but I was livid. Only an instant complaint would ease my pain.

In the second game of the series with Detroit, Macha left Loiaza in to surrender 7 earned runs, unbelievable in a playoff game, and also an A’s playoff record by the way, so at least we witnessed history. It was obvious that Loiaza didn’t have it, and you do not let a pitcher work through it during a playoff game, especially with the bullpen the A’s have. Exhibit A, Leyland (a good manager), removed Verlander with a 1-1 count in the series against the Yankees because it was obvious he was done. Good managers do not wait for the terrible things to happen to make a move, they are proactive.

Now obviously Beane was listening to the show and understanding the influence our website has with at least 4-5 solid A’s fans, he immediately set in motion plans to rectify the situation. Macha had to go. While I am complaining, I would also like to rip Macha for almost never leaving the dugout to argue a close call. Of course you are not going to get the call overturned, but you will get the next one. There were three extremely close plays at first base during the second game, and not once did Macha question the umpire. Defend your players Macha!! Now, are we focusing our anger on one person because of the horrible nature of our departure? Maybe, but that doesn’t mean it is not merited. So long Macha, you will not be missed.

By the way Billy Beane, if you are reading, Ron Washington is Mr. Communication! Hire the man.

2007?

Why not?
